AmeriDarts was established in the Spring of 2001 by Dave and Janis on their home property in Richardsville, Virginia. After several years of business in the educational consulting field, helping various clients in and around the Washington, D.C. area, Dave and Janis decided to shed the corporate coils and do what they liked to do. Janis chose to become a major seller of antiques. Dave chose to rekindle his earlier interest in the sport of darts! Janis had been a career professional in the education field, working in various posts including Public Relations Officer for the District of Columbia School System, a founding partner in a large D.C. consultancy and government contractor, as well as public service during the Carter Administration as a Presidential Appointee to the newly formed U.S. Department of Education. Dave has worn many hats during his working years. He began his work life as a printer apprentice in 1970 at a small publishing firm in Central Illinois. He gained the knowledge in the field that provided the base for his work as a graphic services provider to architects, engineers, advertising agencies and large manufacturing firms, such as Woodward Governor Company, Sundstrand Aerospace, Wurlitzer Corp. and many others, as well as being Assistant Director of Advertising for a major machine tool manufacturer in Rockford, Illinois, his home town. In 1978 Dave broke free of the steady paycheck world and started his own graphic services business. He invented numerous graphic mechanisms and brainstormed unique photographic processes for use in creating sophisticated retail point-of-purchase displays. He designed and built several unique photographic interfaces for personal computers during the early 80s. In about 1982, Dave designed and built the first totally automated, self-loading & self-processing Medical Imaging System for use with CT Scanners (CATSCAN) and Magnetic Resonance Imagers (MRI) systems. During the time he was developing the medical imager system, Dave took up the sport of darts as a diversion from the brain-draining tasks at hand. This "hobby" developed into a new community-based darts shop, with a local friend in 1985, while negotiations for the licensing of his medical system were underway. Dave's inventiveness quickly turned to darts products. He developed and marketed several new and widely received products. This is actually where the AMERI-THON brand had its roots. He first made what we all call "hard flights" on a production machine in 1989. In the Spring of 2001, Dave poured all of his past knowledge of graphics, mechanical and electrical design and how to make dart flights into the creation of the AMERI-THON brand. It has since become widely accepted as a great brand of extra heavy duty dart flights and are sold worldwide. AmeriDarts manufactures private labeled brands for many companies around the world. The Internet has had a profound impact upon how darts products are marketed, challenging to the core the distribution schemes of the past, especially in the U.S. The consumer benefits by the increased competition and lower prices. That is a good thing. We believe we can compete with any firm in England OR China with great products, great service, creative new innovations and at prices that are quite reasonable...AND that are MADE IN AMERICA! AmeriDarts is likely the ONLY flight maker in the world where the guy who makes the flights picks up the phone. If you have a question give Dave a call! |
